Context of the project:

The Lisbon Treaty foresees the setting up of a European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps with the objective "to establish framework for joint contributions from young Europeans to the humanitarian aid operations of the Union".
The final corps is expected to be established by 2014. In order to work on the legislative proposal, the DG ECHO has launched a first experimental call for proposal in June 2011: three projects have been selected and are under implementation.
A second experimental call for proposal has been launched and our organization ADICE will apply.

Objectives of the project:

To develop a structured and coherent framework of training and deployment of future volunteers at the European level, in order to ensure a good preparation of the volunteers, as well as the development of competences by the volunteers and by the local capacities during the projects.

Activities:

• conception of a set of appropriate and specific modules of training for humanitarian volunteers, thanks to the experiences of the various partners
• identification of hosting humanitarian projects in ECHO countries for future volunteers
• selection and preparation of volunteers
• deployment of volunteers on humanitarian projects in ECHO countries
• evaluation of the volunteers by the volunteers and by the local communities

Target Groups:

• young people qualified but not experienced
• experienced young people and adults.

Target countries:

The volunteers will be deployed in ECHO countries (Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Caribbean Islands, Middle-east, Asia)

In Via Köln, Germany.

Requirements for the partner organisation:

European NGO, experienced in the field of humanitarian aid and training of humanitarian volunteers, which has local projects and/or partners in ECHO countries.
